This weeks featured wine comes from a super cool collaboration between Charles Smith (Wine Enthusiast winemaker of the year) and Charles Bieler of Bieler Family Wines in Provence, France. The two teamed up in 2008 to produce a rose from Washington State and they now produce a total of 5 wines, all sourced from the Columbia Valley in Washington State.
About The Wine
This Riesling comes from grapes grown on the Art Den Hoed vineyard in Yakima Valley. What makes this vineyard special to produce great Riesling is the gently slopes, high elevation (1,250 feet) and well-drained silt loam soils. The high elevation maintains a mountain climate with much more moderate summer temperatures allowing for the grapes to have great balance of sugar and acidity.
There is a unique richness to this Riesling. The aromatics have distinct notes of citrus zest, key lime, apricot, peach and summer flowers. No flavor dominates the palate, allowing an underlying salinity and mineral component to shine through the hint of sweetness and bright acidity.
