El Enemigo is a special project by Adrianna Catena of the Catena Family Winery and Alejandro Vigil, Catena’s Chief Winemaker. They started the El Enemigo project to represent their respect for the history and tradition of Argentinian winemaking. Alejandro has become a specialist in Cabernet Franc and he holds the highest rating ever given to a pure Cabernet France from Argentina.
This Cabernet Franc is ruby red in color with soft violet tones. The nose has intense aromas and concentrated notes of cassis, ripe currants, and sweet spices including black pepper and cloves. Fresh impact and excellent structure on the palate, reminiscent of ripe red fruits with hints of eucalyptus and tagged black pepper. This wine has an excellent balance and elegance with a well-structured, persistent finish.
“The 2014 El Enemigo Cabernet Franc is pure Cabernet Franc from Gualtallary fermented with 50% whole clusters. It felt riper than the 2013, and there are less herbal aromas and more notes from the plum-like spectrum. What I like here is the tastiness in the palate and the fine tannins, the chalky sensation that provides an almost salty finish. The palate is a lot fresher than the nose points at and the acidity is quite high. It slowly develops a note of curry, getting spicier and spicier in the glass”.
