Domaine Jolivet is located in the premier appellation of St. Joseph and has one of the most up and coming young winemakers in the appellation. Bastien Jolivet took over the family winery in 2014 after traveling and working at wineries in Bordeaux and New Zealand for many years. His father always worked the 9-hectare of vineyards and sold most of the fruit to co-ops. Today, Bastien farms the vineyards organically to produce natural wines with minimal intervention, filtering, and very little added sulfur. All of his wines are produced in small quantities and are fermented spontaneously with natural yeast.
Cuvee de Louis is 100% Syrah, a blend of young and old vines (40 years old) and the wine is fermented without de-stemming the grapes, Bastien believes that the stems add complexity, density, and balance to the wine. The wine is aged in stainless steel vats for 6-8 months creating a fresh wine.
This unoaked Syrah offers crisp red berry fruit aromas with violets and cassis notes. The fresh palate is powerful yet elegant with hints of cherry, blueberry, dried herbs, and rose petals. This is an outstanding Syrah with complexity, balance and bright acidity.
