The Matchbook Winery is a family owned and operated winery in Dunnigan Hills, California. Petit Verdot is a red grape varietal that is thought to be one of the first varieties originally planted in Bordeaux by the ancient Romans and is still one of the five varietals used in Bordeaux. The Matchbook Estate vineyards provide the perfect growing conditions for the Petit Verdot grapes to ripen with complexity due to the gravel-based soils.
The final blend consists of 88% Petit Verdot and 12% Malbec and was aged for 13 months in American oak barrels. Inviting aromas of clove and brown sugar set the background of this robust reds nose. Dense flavors of plum, violets and mocha are layered over tart cherry and blueberry notes. Strong tannins are tamed by appealing fruit sweetness.
Here’s your end of summer BBQ wine. Great match withe BBQ meats, pork and even chicken.
